  1. Grace reported on her meeting with Mike Hurst and said they had discussed numbers, in particular the budget for the South Park Recreation Center. Grace said they have sent an email with some follow-up questions to Maggie who is the Center’s administrator to see about pool costs and possible grants.

Grace reported on her meeting with Jenny Nehring, who is a pool supporter in Monte Vista. Grace said that she will have a follow-up meeting on Tuesday, November 19th at 7 p.m. at Rain Brews with Jenny and Patrick Sewell for further discussion about Monte Vista voters joining our Park & Rec District.

Grace also reported that land is for sale right next to Jack’s Market in Monte Vista. Benton brought up a photo of the land on his computer.

Grace then explained that she has been in contact with Christy Doon, DOLA South Central Colorado Regional Manager. Grace said that DOLA gives planning grants through the Energy and Mineral Impact Program. Grace felt this would be a great resource for the District as we move forward.

  1. The group began an outline for the January 30th meeting

everyone introduce themselves

explain why they got involved

board members have been meeting for a year

discussing rec center – budget issues, what kind of rec center, etc.

originally considered 1911 building old junior/high school

board members queried community informally – many people want pool

costs high – how to afford a pool – idea of joining with Monte Vista considered

at the point now where we need community input to move forward

needs of the community are great for recreating

Financial Issues

called other rec centers in CO and NM for budgets

costs of rec center high

assessed values = amount of revenues generated

Community’s Input

how to move forward? – various scenarios possible

Verbage for Notice in Water Bill:
